Renewal of passport or ID card for a child under 12

For a child under the age of 12, passport/ID card renewal application can be submitted in the following ways:

  • via the self-service portal;
  • by post (by sending the application directly to Tallinn, Estonia);
  • at the embassy.

 

APPLYING VIA THE SELF-SERVICE PORTAL

If you have access to e-services (ID-card, Mobile-ID or Smart-ID), then the most low-cost and easiest way to renew your child’s documents is through the self-service portal.

APPLYING BY POST

In order to apply by post, one would need to prepare and complete the following:

  • Print out and submit the standard application form (in English, in Estonian) filled in capital letters, using a dark ballpoint pen or ink pen.
  • Submit the receipt of the state fee which was paid to the Ministry of Finance (the state fees when applied by post can be found HERE).
  • Obtain a DIGITAL photo (physical/printed photos are not accepted) and send it directly to the Estonian Police via email [email protected]. Please attach the photo to the email and write down the applicant’s name and the date of birth inside the email (photo requirementsvideo instructions).
  • Send the filled-out application form and the receipt of the state fee payment by post to the address below:

APPLYING AT THE EMBASSY (book an appointment HERE):

When coming to an appointment, please do the following:

  • Fill in and bring standard application form (in English, in Estonian). The form must be in capital letters, using a dark ballpoint pen or ink pen.
  • Bring the child’s current or expired Estonian passport or ID card to verify the identity.
  • Obtain a DIGITAL photo (physical/printed photos are not accepted) and send it directly to the Estonian Police via email [email protected]. Please attach the photo to the email and write down the applicant’s name and the date of birth inside the email (photo requirementsvideo instructions).
  • The state fee can be paid at the embassy (we only accept card payments).

 

Please note that parents applying on behalf of their children should also have their identification document when coming to the Embassy (i.e. passport).
